DESCRIPTION:
Self-guided route of the Way of the Good Men, departing from Berga to reach the town of Foix in Ariège (France) in the last stage.
A unique path that crosses the Pyrenees to reach one of the most emblematic towns in the neighboring country, and which was used by the mythical Cathar people in their escape from the Inquisition.
This is a route where hikers will combine hard and long stages with lighter ones, including spectacular views and culture along the way. A unique opportunity to enjoy a week and a half of fun, adventure and nature in its purest form... .

The Way of the Good Men is a unique route that crosses the Pyrenees and was used by the mythical Cathar people in their escape from the Inquisition. The path leaves Berga and reaches Foix (Ariege, France), although we also give you the option of doing it in the opposite direction.
This is a route where you will combine hard and long stages with lighter ones, including spectacular views and culture along the way. A unique opportunity to enjoy a week and a half of adventure and nature in its purest form!
Stage 0: Foix
Arrival in Foix on your own (you can get there by train or by car). Dinner and accommodation. We recommend a visit to the Castle and a walk through the old town, you will not be disappointed!
Stage 1: Foix - Montségur – Comus
Distance: 16.10 km. Breakfast. Transfer to Montségur to begin the first stage. Short stage, but no less hard for that reason. You will head towards Comus through the Gorges de la Frau, an exceptional place. Arrival in Comus, dinner and accommodation.
Stage 2: Comus – Ascou
Distance: 20.86 km. Breakfast. We will leave Comús towards Montaillou and Coll de Balaguès, passing through the town of Prades. From Coll de Balaguès we will reach Chioula and Coll d'Ijou, from where we will descend to Sorgeat and continue until we reach Ascou. The landscape will make you fall in love with its colors throughout the day. Dinner and accommodation.
Stage 3: Ascou – Mérens-les-Vals
Distance: 19.98 km. Breakfast. From Ascou we will leave towards Orgeix and climb to Coll de Joux. From here we will descend towards the Coual huts, and then arrive at Mérens. Dinner and accommodation.
Stage 4: Mérens-les-Vals – Porta
Distance: 21.91 km. Breakfast. From Mérens-Les-Vals, along the Ariège River, we will arrive at l'Hospitalet. We will climb to the Col de Puymorens, from where we will descend to Porta. End of route. Night in Porta on a half-board basis.
Stage 5: Porta – Prullans de Cerdanya
Distance: 35.5 km. We leave Porta towards the Cabana de Campcardós and from here the route takes us to the Coll de la Portella Blanca, the highest point of the route. After crossing this pass, we descend to Cabana dels Esparvers and continue to a farmhouse called Cal Jan de la Llosa. We continue our journey, passing through Coborriu de la Llosa, to Prullans de Cerdanya. (Transfer from Vilar to Prullans de Cerdanya, reducing the route by 10 km). Night in Prullans de Cerdanya on a half-board basis.
Stage 6: Prullans de Cerdanya – Bagà
Distance: 29 km. We leave Prullans de Cerdanya until we reach Coborriu. From here we can reach the Cortals de l'Ingla Refuge by following the GR 107 along the Ingla trail, which is mandatory for horses and mountain bikes, or by taking the GR 107-4 variant, which is more direct and goes along the path. From Cortals de l'Ingla we will climb to Coll de Pendís, from where we will descend to Bagà. Night in Bagà on a half-board basis.
Stage 7: Bagà – Gósol
Distance: 26 km. From Bagà we will climb to Coll de la Bena and then to Coll de Bauma. We will continue to Gósol, passing through Coll de Torn and Collell. Night in Gósol on a half-board basis.
Stage 8: Gósol – Peguera
Distance: 21.5 km. We will leave Gósol towards Sorribes and l'Espà until we reach the Molí de Feners. From this Mill we will continue along the GR towards Coll del Portet. We will pass through Ferrús and Font de la Bruixa to finally reach Peguera. Night in Peguera on a half-board basis.
Stage 9: Peguera – Berga
Distance: 15 km. From Peguera we will arrive in Berga passing through Espinalbet and the Sanctuary of Queralt, where the Path of Good Men ends. From Queralt we will go down to Berga following the PR C-73 (path marked with white and yellow signs). Arrival in Berga and end of the adventure (last night can be contracted in the "extras" section).
