The Espai Ceretània Museum is an interpretation center for the archaeological site known as El Castellot.
This is a site that has been studied since the nineties and excavated since 2006 by the Autonomous University of Barcelona in collaboration with the Bolvir City Council, where 3 phases of occupation have been documented: a first Iberian phase from the 4th - 3rd centuries BC where the settlement was inhabited by the Iber people of Ceretans; A second Roman phase between the 2nd - 1st centuries BC when the presence of people of Italic origin and a possible military detachment is documented; and a third medieval phase between the 10th and 12th centuries that becomes a type of fortification or stronghold.
The museum consists of several different areas, firstly an permanent exhibition room and contextualization of the settlement that is accompanied by various interactive resources, then the access to the site, where you have the possibility of seeing the different phases of occupation, its stratigraphy and the work that is done from the archaeological point of view, and finally a temporary exhibition room, from which it is intended to provide a cultural offer diverse in the territory.
The intention of the museum is to offer a quality cultural and heritage visit that allows you to learn about the history of Ceretania and also allows you to link the medieval phase with the entire context of the Camí dels Bons Homes.
From the Museum we offer a guiding service to the site and the church of Sant Climent de Talltorta, one of the heritage elements of Bolvir, as well as various workshops (these two activities require prior reservation).
The Center also acts as a Tourist Information Point for the municipality and the region of Cerdanya, offering information on heritage resources, routes, restaurants and accommodations.
