OFICINA DE TURISME DE LA CERDANYA

Information office of the Cerdanya region.

La Cerdanya is one of the most beautiful, finest regions in Catalonia. It is a large basin, structured over the course of the Segre, with the graceful particularity of falling slightly, gently, from east to west, on an inclined plane. It is not a large sunken valley, but a reclining valley. Surrounded by high mountains that reach three thousand meters, Cerdanya does not depress, like so many places in the Pyrenees; on the contrary, it produces a sensation of spaciousness, elevation, brightness, and freedom. Its skies are splendid, its air is fine, its landscapes have an endearing tenderness. (…)

In Cerdanya, the panoramas are extremely beautiful, but the details equal them and sometimes surpass them; they are incomparable. From any point on the periphery of the valley -as long as it is a little high-, the region emerges in all its radiant and luminous splendor, just as from any point in the valley the mountainous amphitheater that encloses it appears and that forms three superimposed colors: the pink snow of the high peaks; the blackish green of the firs and pines of the middle mountain and the lighter, burnished, cheerful, peaceful green of the meadows, poplars, alders, and poplars. The composition of these three colors creates a landscape of perfect order, of great elegance.
